THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet has approved the setting up of 28 Additional Fast Track Special Courts in the state for speedy disposal of rape cases and cases registered under the POCSO Act. With this, there will be 56 fast-track special courts only to deal POCSO cases.

The staff pattern and appointment in new courts will be the same as the existing POCSO courts. The posts will be sanctioned as and when the courts begin. Posts each for District Judge, Senior Clerk and Bench Clerk will be created. Posts will be created on contract basis for posts of Confidential Assistant and Computer Assistant / LD Typist and for two Office Attendants post.

Necessary posts will be created in the Fisheries Department for the operation of fisheries stations in Alappuzha, Ponnani, Azhikode (Thrissur) and Kasaragod. A post will be created each for Assistant Director of Fisheries, Assistant Fisheries Extension Officer, Fisheries Officer, Clerk cum Typist and Office Attendant Grade-2, along with three posts of Fisheries Guard. Casual sweepers were also allowed to be hired on a contract basis through employment exchanges. Ajit Kumar will be appointed as Kannur District Govt. of pleader and public prosecutor's post.
