NEW DELHI: A union minister has come forward with an explanation for taking action against numerous channels. Minister of state for Information and Broadcasting, L Murugan said that the government has taken action against 160 TV channels and blocked 60 channels on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter pages on grounds of national security.

Meanwhile, the issue of blocking the broadcast of Malayalam media channel MediaOne was raised in the parliament by MPs from Kerala. A notice for an urgent resolution was issued for discussing the matter. MPs namely M K Raghavan and Adoor Prakash had issued the notice in the Lok Sabha. This is for the second consecutive time that the Kerala MPs have raised the issue of MediaOne.

This is not merely the problem of a channel. This is an effort to shut the mouth of media. The matter should be discussed after halting all the activities of the assembly, demanded the MPs. The parliamentary IT committee has sought an explanation from the union information and broadcasting ministry for blocking telecast of the channels.
