KOTTAYAM: No more hope… Inform everyone… These words said by the doctors of a private hospital in Kottayam, still rings in the ears of Udayan of Kainadi Sreevilasam. When his wife Asha’s body was covered in a white robe, Udayan’s cries had shocked everyone. But, Asha came back to life defeating the deadly poison of a cobra.
It was on February 27, 2006 that Asha got bitten by a cobra, at her house in Kainadi. Since it was dark, they were unable to identify what had bitten her. She unfelt discomfort within a few minutes. Health conditions worsened. Her state was very critical, when rushed to the hospital. Heartbeats dropped. There is nothing more we can do, said the doctors. While her death was confirmed and her body was to be covered in a white robe, suddenly there was a movement in her chest… a beat in her heart. The doctors were hopeful again. She was shifted to the ventilator. Seven days’ struggle between life and death. On the eighth day, she regained consciousness. After one and half decade since the incident, Asha still likes to think of it as a dream.
