PARAVUR: A fisherman committed suicide after depressed over the conversion of his land. Malyankara Koikkal Sajeevan (57) was found hanging from a tree Thursday morning. His relatives said he took the drastic step after the officials of the village office and RDO failed to convert his four cents of land under the paddy land conversion scheme. He had approached the offices many times during the past one and a half years to get it converted.

His relatives alleged the letter found in his clothes blamed the Pinarayi Government. Sajeevan and his family were living in a house of four cents. He had taken a loan from a private chitty company after pledging his house. When the payment of the loan expired, he decided to take loan from another bank. He borrowed money from several people and took his house document from the chitty company. When he pledged the document for a loan, it was found that his four cents were found as paddy land in the data bank.

He had approached the Moothakunnam Village Office, Paravur Taluk Office and Fort Kochi RDO several times to get his paddy land converted to plain land. His wife Sathy found him hanging yesterday morning at 7 am.

The suicide note was found in his clothes during inquest proceedings.

Police said they are examining the letter as there is some uncertainty in it. His relatives are preparing to file a complaint against the officials for the lapses. He leaves behind his children Nithindev and Ashita Devi, Varsha and Rahul are his daughter and son-in-laws. The body was shifted to Ernakulam Medical College after he was confirmed of Covid. An autopsy will be performed on Friday.
