The instruction given by the country to the diplomatic representatives to boycott the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics has raised India's sense of pride. The tension which began in the India-China border region in 2020 is not over yet. China is still continuing to provoke India by moving ahead with military operations and construction works. Despite these provocations, India, along with Russia, had welcomed the announcement to organise the Winter Olympics in China right at the outset. Meanwhile, some other countries, including the USA, have announced a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Olympics. Initially, India might have opted not to announce such a boycott as it did not want to mix sports with politics.

Apart from the USA, countries such as Britain, Australia and Canada announced a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Olympics in response to the imprisoning of more than a million Muslim-majority Uyghurs in detention centers in Xinjiang. Rejecting the allegations, China said that no such detention centers were functioning in the country. However, when the media came up with more evidence regarding such camps, China claimed that they were only vocational training camps. We must also remember that China, which has been repeating several lies about the origin of Covid, has not yet released the real facts regarding the outbreak.

India has now announced the boycott on the basis of a factual reason. Twenty Indian soldiers were martyred in the conflict that took place between the Indian and Chinese troops in Galwan valley in Easter Ladakh. Qi Fabao is a Chinese commander who was injured in this very same clash. He was also presented with a special Chinese military medal. India announced a diplomatic boycott on Beijing Winter Olympics after China decided to have Qi Fabao as the torchbearer for the Winter Olympics. At the same time, the only athlete from India will compete in the event. India will take part in the sporting event as it did not want to hinder the opportunity of athletes in the name of political and military differences. At the same time, China decided to choose a soldier, who took part in the Galwan clash, as a torchbearer to belittle India's participation. All neutral countries will support India's decision to boycott the ceremony.

India had published the details and photos of 20 Indian soldiers who were martyred in the Galwan clash. However, China had claimed that only four of its soldiers were killed in the clash. However, an Australian newspaper recently announced that as many as 38 Chinese soldiers drowned in the Galwan river during the clash. We may have to wait for several years to know the truth regarding it.
