NEW DELHI: The third wave of Covid-19 is currently raging across the country. However, this phase is likely to wane soon, said the experts at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The cases will come to a sharp decline by the end of March. Currently, there has been a fall in Covid cases in the states of Maharashtra, Delhi and West Bengal. This will decrease further, said the ICMR experts.

There has been a decrease in the number of people undergoing Covid treatment in these states. 14.35 lakh is the current active caseload in the country. The peak of cases encountered in these states will come down to the base level by the end of this month itself, said Dr Samiran Panda, ICMR additional director-general.

The cities in Maharashtra that had once reported 48,000 cases daily have now gone down to 15,000 cases. The daily cases are expected to drop to 10,000 by the second week of March. The third wave had mostly infected the youth of the country. The symptoms were also relatively less among the youth. However, experts have found that death rates were considerably high.
