KOLLAM: Four policemen, including a sub inspector were injured following a tussle with an accused who attacked them after grabbing a police gun. Shots fired from the gun spread fear in the area. The incident occurred at Pathanapuram in Kollam. The police had come to arrest Mukesh of Punalur Maniyar Charuvila house, an accused in many cases, following the information that he was in his wife’s house in Punnala.
Mukesh had placed a knife around a policeman’s neck, while he was being arrested. Following which the SI pointed his gun towards him. The accused tried to grab the gun and in between shots were fired. One of the bullets had slid over Mukesh’s face. He was subdued by the police with the help of the locals. The accused as well as the policemen who got injured are undergoing treatment at the taluk hospital in Punalur. Mukesh is an accused in over 25 cases, said the police.
