THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is demanding a hike in power tariff in the state. The board submitted a tariff plan demanding an increase of 18% to the electricity regulatory commission. The board wants an increase of 92 paise per unit. The regulatory commission will announce the new rate after seeking the opinion of the public on the matter.
The board estimates a revenue deficit of Rs 2852 crore. The board expects a revenue of Rs 2284 crore if increased by 92 paise per unit in the financial year 2022-23. The present rate in the state was approved on July 19 in 2019. The board wants an increase of 18.14% for domestic consumers, 11.88% for small business consumers and 11.47% for large scale industrialists.
The KSEB is demanding an increase of Rs 6.86 from Rs 5.67 per unit for large agricultural consumers and Rs 3.64 from Rs 2.75 per unit for small agricultural consumers and Rs 7.18 from 6.46 for Kochi Metro.
