THRISSUR: A five-year-old girl who came to Athirappally to attend her grandmother's funeral was trampled by a wild elephant. The deceased has been identified as Agnimiya, daughter of Mala native Nikhil. Nikhil, the girl's father and Jayan, her grandfather, suffered injuries while trying to save her. They are undergoing treatment at Chalakudy James Hospital.

The incident took place at Kannamkuzhi in Athirappally. The three were going to their house on a bike when they spotted the wild elephant. Nikhil stopped the bike after seeing the elephant. Although the three tried to run away from the elephant, the animal attacked the girl. Though Agnimiya was rushed to the hospital, she could not be saved.
