Lot of people have lost their jobs during the Covid pandemic. Many people have returned from abroad ,of these, only some were able to go back. Construction and tourism fields came to a standstill, leaving thousands jobless. None of these circumstances have turned normal. Even if they return, most of them won't get their job back. The private sector is reluctant to make capital investments as Covid crisis is unpredictable. India's budget has given the highest priority to infrastructure development with the aim of reducing unemployment. If the economy does not grow, unemployment will increase. If new job opportunities are created in both government and private sectors, educated young people will not have to wait for years to get a job. A family survives with a person's job. With the help of that working person, other members of the family can also prosper in higher fields. While the authorities admit that unemployment is high, the fact remains that there are about nine lakh vacancies in the Central Service. While replying in the Rajya Sabha, Union Ministers said that there were 8.75 lakh vacancies in the Central Service, of which 3.03 lakh were in the Railways.
According to Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr Jitendra Singh, there are 21,255 vacancies in Group A and 7,56,146 vacancies in Group C in the Central Service. The minister revealed this while responding to a query from Dr V Sivadasan.
The minister had replied in the winter session of Parliament that there were 97,757 vacancies in Group B. The figures are for March 1, 2020. The number of vacancies is likely to increase.
Minister Ashwani Vaishnav stated that there are 3,03,482 vacancies in various zones of the railways. There are 161 vacancies in Gazetted posts and 19,500 vacancies in Non Gazetted posts in the Southern Zone which includes Kerala. If the Central government acts urgently and completes examination and other procedures, within 10 months nine lakh people will get jobs. Perhaps the government should show sincerity in filling the existing vacancies before making big efforts to create new jobs.
