KOCHI: The ban on Malayalam news channel MediaOne, imposed by the union ministry of information and broadcasting, is in effect again. It came into effect once again, after the high court rejected a petition filed by Media Broadcast Limited seeking the removal of the ban. The court had stayed the ban order, yesterday, asking the centre to submit the documents related to the denial of security clearance to the channel.

The documents were placed in a specially sealed cover and submitted before the high court on Tuesday. The court observed that the information provided in the report was critical and hence rejected the media’s petition.

The centre had yesterday argued in the court that this was a matter of national security and the court should not interfere in it. It had also opposed the involvement of MediaOne employees and Kerala Journalists’ union in the case. The central government had informed the court that the security guidelines are reviewed from time to time and decisions are only taken accordingly. As per available reports, the MediaOne management has decided to approach the high division bench against the order.
