THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet will approve the 100-day action plan ahead of the second Pinarayi government completing one year on May 20. For this, the ministers have submitted the proposals of their respective departments to the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister will announce the 100-day plans at a press conference to be held on Wednesday evening.
Today's cabinet meeting may consider the hike in bus fares and the date for convening the assembly session. Another file from the Department of Transportation regarding the increase in auto and taxi fares may also be considered. In addition to raising the minimum bus fare to Rs 10, the Transport Department has recommended a proportional increase in the fare per kilometre. If the rate hike is approved by the cabinet, it is likely to be implemented from February 15th. The Electricity Board had also approached the State Electricity Regulatory Commission seeking a hike in electricity tariff. If all the hikes are announced simultaneously, it will be a huge blow for the people who are struggling due to the Covid crisis.
The cabinet will also consider a draft list of recommendations to the governor to start the assembly session from the 18th. With the Governor's signing of the Lokayukta Amendment Ordinance, there will be no further impediment to the convening of the Assembly. On February 18, the assembly session will begin at 9 am with the Governor's policy address. The Assembly will adjourn on 21 after paying homage to late MLA PT Thomas. From Feb 22 to 24, there will be discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s address. The assembly will then temporarily adjourn and resume on March 11. On March 11, Finance Minister KN Balagopal will present the budget for the new financial year. The general discussion on the budget will take place from March 14 to16. The assembly will then adjourn after passing a four-month vote-on-account.
