PALAKKAD: Intense efforts are being made to rescue Babu trapped in a cave on a steep hill at Malampuzha. The rescue mission in Malampuzha is unparalleled. This is the largest rescue operation being conducted in Kerala for just one person.
There are two units of the army in the area. It is heard that the army has reached 200 meters near Babu. The mission team is now on top of Kumbachi Hill in Cherad. One team is climbing down with the help of a rope and another team is climbing up.
The army is watching the drone footages. Rescuers are hoping that the youth can be brought down today itself. The helicopter will arrive shortly. Babu has been trapped in the hill for nearly 45 hours.
Babu aged 23 and his friends scaled the hill Monday morning. His friends who got tired returned half way. Babu slipped when climbing and fell into a crevice. Babu himself informed his friends and the police via phone.
The government sought the help of the army after attempts by the police, fire and rescue services and volunteers failed.
