AHMEDABAD: Former India opener Virender Sehwag and Rishabh Pant has many similar qualities. Due to Covid break out in the Indian camp, there has been some inconsistencies in terms of openers. Ishant Kishan was the opener in the first ODI but in the second ODI Rishabh Pant was the opener along with captain Rohit Sharma. That to even after the return of regular opener KL Rahul. It was inspired by some similarities between Pant and Sehwag's games.

Pant is a player who follows Sehwag's style of attacking in any situation. India needs such an opener. This may have prompted the Indian team management to select Pant in the opener's role in the second ODI against the West Indies.

But Pant failed in his first attempt. He scored just 18 runs off 34 balls. Rohit, who came in as the opener, was already out with five runs. When former captain Virat Kohli who scored 18 runs got out, India was on the verge of collapse.

From there, vice-captain KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav tried to help India reach the target, but Rahul was runout with score of 49 runs and Suryakumar Yadav(64) was dismissed by Allen.

At last count, India had scored 200 runs for the loss of six wickets in 44 overs. For the West Indies, Odin Smith took two wickets and Kemar Roach one.
