THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The security of the Vidyuthi Bhavan, KSEB headquarters will be handed over to State Industrial Security Service of the Kerala police. SISF is a unit formed in the state police similar to the Central Forces CISF, which is responsible for security at airports and other places.They handle the security at Technopark.
The reform was taken as per central govt's direction as KSEB was included in industrial category which needs high security. There was also an assessment that the cyber security of KSEB was not strong. By considering all this, it was decided that strong security must be put in cyber category, headquarters and hydropower plants. This will come to force after February 15. At present, KSEB has 100 policemen and 221 personnel from private agencies on security duty. They will be replaced by 325 SISF personnel. About half of them have modern guns. The power house in Pattam will have eight people, including four gunmen. A section of KSEB employees and the Officers' Association are against the security reforms. Their opinion is that it is not right to spend more money on security when suffer financial loss.
Meanwhile, there were protests by ruling party organisations against transfer. It is alleged that the security has been increased as the protestors trespassed into the office of Chief Engineer of HR dept.
