MUMBAI: There have been several occasions where money has been accidentally credited to an account. In a similar incident, lakhs were credited into the bank account of a farmer in Maharashtra.

A sum of Rs 15 lakh was credited in the Jan Dhan account of Gyaneshwar Ote, a native of Paithan taluk in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, in August 2021. He thought that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was fulfilling his election promises and wrote a letter thanking the prime minister.

He also withdrew Rs 9 lakh from the account for building a house. However, six months later, the bank sent him a notice saying that the money was deposited by mistake and asked him to return the amount in full. The money was actually allocated to Pimpalwadi gram panchayat for development purposes.
