ALAPPUZHA: Karichal Chundan was declared as the winner of the 2011 Nehru Trophy Boat Race. Earlier, Devas Chundan was declared as the winner. Karichal Chundan had approached the High Court against the decision stating that the rowers of Devas Chundan had violated the rules. The court then appointed a committee comprising the district collector to take a final decision on the issue. It was this committee that now disqualified Devas Chundan and declared Karichal the winner.

This is the first time in the history of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race, that the winner has been announced in such a manner. Nehru Trophy Boat Race has not been held for the last two years due to the pandemic.
