The main achievement of the first LDF government led by Pinarayi Vijayan was that the promises made to the people in the manifesto were fully implemented. This achievement was the main reason behind the left government's second term. The second Pinarayi government, which is preparing to celebrate its first anniversary, is coming forward with new 100-day action plans. As it celebrates its first anniversary on May 20, more than 1,500 projects are expected to be completed or commissioned. An amount of Rs 17183 crore is being spent on these projects.

It is noteworthy that 4.64 lakh new jobs are being created with all the schemes. Most of the jobs will be in the power, water resources, local government and agriculture departments. If the claim that a total of 17 million workdays can be created in these 100 days is possible, every component of the government, will have to work tirelessly like a well-oiled machine.

There are promises that many government services, including rations, will be delivered in a door-to-door basis. Even if this is not done, a little mercy should be shown on those who came to the office seeking service. The new 100-day plan includes the inauguration of projects completed as part of the first 100-day program of action. The Chief Minister's announcement that K-Phone, one of the government's flagship projects, will reach the people before the first anniversary is welcome. In the first phase, connections will be provided to 100 families and 30,000 government offices in 140 assembly constituencies. It is a great achievement that when the project is completed, the best internet connectivity across the state will be available at low cost. Another highlight of the 100-day event will be the handing over of 20,000 houses and three housing complexes built by Life Mission. It took several days to resolve the departmental disputes related to the examination of applications for selection of beneficiaries. Before May 20, a number of events are underway, including 2,500 study rooms for Scheduled Caste children, a lease for 15,000 people, the laying of the foundation stone of 23 new police stations, the inauguration of 1,500 rural roads, the handing over of keys to fishermen's houses, the construction of a Sabarimala station and the inauguration of an airstrip in Idukki.

Organic farming on 10,000 hectares is another important item in the 100-day program. Kerala is dependent on poisonous vegetables from other states. For this to change, it is necessary to develop vegetable cultivation within the state as much as possible. The government should also take steps to create adequate markets for vegetables and fruits produced by farmers.

Among the activities is a bund making at Vembanad Lake. This is something that should only be done after adequate consultation with experts. The lake is already being ravaged by severe pollution. The proposed bund at Vembanad Lake should not be like the Thannirmukkam bund that destroyed Kuttanad. Adequate studies should be done from experience to make decisions in such matters.
