KOLLAM: An old radio park in Perumkulam, Kottarakara which stopped broadcasting three decades ago, is returning back to the listeners in a new form. The interjunction itself is named as Radio Junction which has a spacious radio kiosk, seating facilities and playground. During the elections, several people including politicians, came here to know the news. The park ceased to function three decades ago when the radio was destroyed. Kulakada Grama Panchayat has set up a health sub-center on the site of the park. The new kiosk is of the same model as before.

The kiosk was mounted on a five-foot-high GI pipe. The kiosk is three feet long and two feet wide. The radio was placed inside. There are two boxes to hear the sound in the junction.

The Bapuji Memorial Library has decided to rebuild the Radio Park as part of a one - year celebration of the declaration of Perumkulam as the first book village in the state. The cost of the kiosk was borne by Vasudevan Pillai (71), a veteran who moved to Ambalapuzha, and Gopinathan Pillai (65), a retired railway police officer who moved to Valakam Andoor.

Grama Panchayat President P.T. Indukumar said that Radio Kiosk will be opened to the village at 5 pm on Sunday.

'The new generation does not know about the radio park here. The library is trying to remind them of this. " said Perumkulam Rajeev, President, Bapuji Memorial Library
