BENGALURU: The Indian Space and Research Organization's (ISRO) first launch in the new year turned out to be a complete success. The rocket PSLV C-52 successfully launched all three satellites into the orbit. The launch was conducted from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota at 5:59 am. A Radar Imaging Satellite (RISAT), EOS-04 was the major satellite deployed in the mission. Two others namely a student satellite INSPIRESat-1 and a spacecraft INSAT-2DT were also launched. EOS-04 is a 1710-kilogram satellite that can provide high-quality images under all weather conditions.
INSPIRESat-1 was developed by the students of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) in Thiruvananthapuram in collaboration with the Laboratory of Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the Colorado University. It is a satellite developed through the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) project. The satellite aims to study the ionosphere and the sun’s corona. The term of the mission is two years.
It is the first launch since S Somnath took over as the ISRO chairman. Let us soon meet in the next mission, said ISRO chairman after the accomplishment.
