KANNUR: Four people have been taken into custody in connection with the death of youth in a crude bomb blast near the groom’s house at Thottada in Kannur. The police are conducting an intensive search for the person who hurled the bomb. C K Rujul, Saneesh, P Akshay and Jijil are those taken into custody. Police believe that after buying crackers they mixed it with explosives and then turned it into a bomb. The investigating team said that Jishnu killed also knew bomb making. They said the arrest of the accused will be registered soon.
Meanwhile, Kannur Mayor T O Mohanan came forward with a crucial revelation over the incident. He said the accused in the bombing are active members of the CPM. He said the slain Jishnu was also an active member of the party. He said the team trained in bomb hurling on the previous day of the incident and that there was a powerful explosion at midnight near the Cholora waste treatment plant.
The bomb was hurled at Thottada in Kannur yesterday afternoon at around 2.30 pm. Jishnu, 23, a resident of Eachur, was killed and three others were injured in a bomb blast near the groom's house. Rijilesh, Anurag and Hemant from Thottada were admitted to the hospital. Jishnu was one of the groom's group of friends.
According to the police, the dead and the injured were part of the same group and were planning to attack another group with the bomb over some dispute which occurred a day ago.
On Saturday, arguments between the two groups occurred at a house in Thottada where a wedding was to take place, they said.
After the locals intervened, the dispute was resolved and the wedding took place on Sunday morning.
Thereafter, in the afternoon, around 2.00 pm, the attack occurred in front of the wedding party comprising the bride and groom.
No one from the bridal party was injured in the attack, it added.
When the bomb was thrown, instead of hitting someone from the rival group, it hit Jishnu--a member of the attacking group whose head was scattered while two others - Hemant and Anurag-- got injured, police said.
An unexploded bomb was also recovered from the site, it added.
