NAGARCOIL: Vigilance officers conducted a lightning inspection at the house of a police inspector and her friend in Nagarcoil in the Kanyakumari district. The raid was conducted in the house of Kanmani, an inspector of the Nagarcoil women’s police station. The raid was conducted by officials led by Kanyakumari vigilance DySP Peter Paul. It began at 6 am on Sunday and went on till 4 am, the next day.

Kanmani was an inspector at the Superintendent of Police (SP) office till six months ago. The raid was based on a complaint received by the vigilance, stating that Kanmani used to accept bribes. She lives in a rented house in Bala Subramanyam road in Nagarcoil. Documents relating to amassing 171.78 percent of properties in excess to income, gold jewellery of 91 sovereigns and deposit papers worth Rs 1 crore and Rs 7.34 lakh were seized in the raid that lasted 22 hours.

The officers led by vigilance inspector Rama had also conducted raid at the house of Kanmani’s friend Amyutha, who runs a beauty parlor. The raid was conducted at the house in Meenakshipuram Garden in Nagercoil. Loan documents of Rs 23,95,000 were recovered from the house. Cases have been registered against Kanmani and her husband Xavier Pandiyan. The recovered documents will be send to the vigilance office in Chennai. Kanmani will be suspended soon, said the officials.
