NEW DELHI: A year into the banning of 59 Chinese apps, the central government has decided to ban another 54 Chinese apps, citing threat to national security.
Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera - Selfie Camera, Equalizer & Bass Booster, CamCard for SalesForce Ent, Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Lite, Viva Video Editor, Tencent Xriver, Onmyoji Chess, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock and Dual Space Lite are among the banned apps.
The central government had earlier banned popular Chinese applications such as TikTok, Shareit, WeChat, Helo, Likee, UC News, Bigo Live, UC Browser, ES File Explorer, and Mi Community, in June 2020, citing threat to the nation’s sovereignty and security. The centre had banned about 300 Chinese apps in May 2020, following the clashes with China. The first round bans were imposed in June 2020, after 20 Indian soldiers were killed in clashes with Chinese troops in Galwan Valley in the eastern Ladakh.
