THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An online system will soon be set up to convince people of all the issues related to construction to get rid of the curse of having roads and bridges that become damaged soon after inauguration.

The National Informatics Center, a central government agency, has been commissioned to develop the software. The project management system is being implemented with the special interest of Public Works Minister PA Mohammed Riyas with the view that the public is not spectators but watchmen. The authorities are planning to implement the system within six months.

Project Management System

1. People will be able to know the newly implemented construction work, content, contractor, project duration, supervisory officers, their phone numbers, estimates, project execution stages, construction progress, photos, and maintenance period.

2. The Head of Public Works Department, the District Collector, the State Nodal Officer of the project and other important officials can assess the progress of the construction and intervene to rectify the deficiencies.

3. Contractors may raise objections or issues related to construction. They will be able to avoid paying bribes to fix these issues.

4. People's representatives and the public can point out shortcomings and issues that they are directly aware of.

• E Office: Movement of file facilitated. Estimates and tender delays avoided.
• For You Mobile: A mobile app for the public to lodge complaints about roads
• Rest House for the public: The rooms in the rest houses of Public Works Department are available to the public. People can book online.
• DLP board: Boards displaying details related to construction to ensure maintenance and protection of roads.
• Working Calendar: A system for preparing road plans during the monsoon and carrying out works during the summer.
• Coordinating Committee: District level bureaucracy set up to avoid delays in construction work and to ensure co-ordination of various departments.
