clay-well-ring

KOLLAM: In the old days, well water was poured into a clay pot and used for cooling. Keralites can now make their well water cool using a similar technique.

Clay well rings have become popular. These eco-friendly wells are prevalent in Thrissur, Kozhikode and Malappuram. Pottery workers are behind this. As the use of pottery declined, they began to pursue new ways of life.

Instead of concrete rings used to give strength to the well, the clay rings baked in the kiln are used. Clay is also used for making bricks. There are rings of three to 11 inches in circumference. Price depends on size and thickness.
