KOZHIKODE: Two boys sustained burns after drinking some chemical solution mistaking it as water. The solution was drunk from a small shop selling pickles at the Kozhikode Varakkal beach. The incident happened two days ago. Muhammed (14) and Sabid (14), natives of Trikkaripur Ayitti in Kasargod, are the two who sustained burns.
The children reached Kozhikode from Kasargod and were on a pleasure trip. When felt hot after having pickle, a boy drank the liquid thinking it as water. He vomited when felt uneasiness. The other boy sustained burns when this vomit fell on his body.
Muhammed was given first aid at Kozhikode Medical College and was later taken to Payyanur. The child is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Payyanur.
They reached Kozhikode as part of Madrassa study tour. There are widespread complaints that vendors in the area are adding certain chemicals to make the pickle taste better. The hospital said the child sustained burns on his throat and oesophagus.
