NEW DELHI: The police arrested a youth for allegedly raping an 87-year-old woman at her house. A 30-year-old sweeper from west Delhi has been arrested. The incident took place in the Tilak Nagar area in Delhi, on Sunday. The 87-year-old woman has been living with her 65-year-old daughter.

The accused had entered the house guised as a gas agency employee, when the daughter had gone out. After entering, he raped the woman and stole a mobile phone from the house. When the daughter returned home, she found her bedridden mother bleeding and exhausted. She was soon rushed to the hospital.

‘We had lodged a complaint with the police, but they were not ready conduct any investigation’, alleged the complainant’s family. However, after the news broke in the media, the police started an investigation and arrested the accused.

The woman’s family had only reported theft on Sunday. The rape complaint was lodged a day later, said the police.
