CHENNAI: Doctors in Chennai once again did wonders in the medical world. Doctors have saved the life of a four-year-old boy who swallowed a five-centimeter-long battery used in a TV remote. Doctors at Rela Hospital removed the battery from the baby's intestine without surgery. The baby was rescued 14 hours after the battery reached his stomach. Doctors said that if it had stayed longer, the chemicals in the battery would have worsened the boy's health.

After taking X-ray, doctors realized that the battery was in the baby's stomach and decided to remove the battery through endoscop. Endoscopy helped to avoid further delays and complications associated with the surgical procedure. Usually children unknowingly swallow buttons and coins. The doctors also said that the battery, which was five centimeters long and one and a half centimeters wide, was at risk of being removed by endoscopy.
