Many are trying to turn Kerala into a place where not even necessary things get implemented despite a lot of discussions taking place. Ours is a state where even the highway development, which is supposed to be of great benefit to the people and beneficial to future generations, got delayed for more than 10 years without any reason. Due to the delay, many of the projects end up costing twice their actual cost. No one usually talks about this.

A section of people had been believing that they can get recognition only by opposing things that are beneficial for the people. However, this will not be accepted by the younger generation, who are aware of the modern development methods going on in the world. They believe that living in a way that is based on the latest technology will improve their living conditions. The Left Front government launched the SilverLine project because it understood the new generation's vision and was convinced that it would change the very future of Kerala. There has been no shortage of controversy since then. A single bench of the High Court had issued a stay on the survey process on the land of a number of petitioners. However, the division bench allowed the survey to continue for the social impact study of the project. It also stated that the state government had the power to conduct a survey and place an appropriate marker (survey stone) for the social impact study of the SilverLine project. The judgment stated that the government had the power to conduct the survey with the intention of acquiring land for public use as per the provisions of the Kerala Survey and Boundaries Act. With this, the government is planning to expedite the process despite the objections. The aim is to publish the report by conducting a social impact study within 100 days of the completion of the stone laying. The government has also told the court that it will not proceed with the land acquisition until the legal process is completed in consultation with the central government. The current study aims to ensure fair compensation and rehabilitation for those who give up land and to understand the social impact of the project. Such studies are needed ahead of any major project. It is the duty of all those who want the state to progress to give the government the necessary time.

However, some people are raising unnecessary objections against the project. Some are even alleging corruption even before the project took off. It does not take much intelligence or smartness to stop a project through false propaganda. However, it requires immense ability to execute even a small project. Given the high level of opposition, it can be expected that the Left Front government led by Pinarayi Vijayan will make the K-Rail project a reality quickly and efficiently.
