PALAKKAD: The accused in the Ottapalam murder case, Mohammad Firoz, who killed and buried his friend, will be produced in Pattambi court on Wednesday. The accused will be taken to the murder scene and evidence will be taken.
The body of Ibrahim's son Muhammad Aashiq (24) was found in a decomposed state at Azhikkal Paramb in Ottapalam's Palappuram. The relatives of Aashiq identified the body on seeing a thread tied to his hand and a ring on his finger.
Police said a DNA test is needed to scientifically confirm that the body belonged to Aashiq. For this, A sample of relatives has been collected. The body will be subjected to postmortem at Palakkad District Hospital today. Police are also investigating whether anyone else was involved in the murder.
Firoz was arrested recently in connection with a burglary at a mobile shop in 2015. When asked where his co-accused Aashiq was, the accused revealed that he had killed and buried him. He was killed on the night of December 17 at the military ground in East Ottapalam.
In his statement to the police, Firoz said that Aashiq tried to stab him with a knife during an altercation after getting drunk and he grabbed the knife and stabbed Aashiq in the neck. He said the body was then loaded into a pickup vehicle and taken to an unoccupied area near Palappuram for burial. The body was found during a subsequent search.
