THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the fourth session of the fifteenth Kerala Legislative Assembly set to begin on Friday, the Opposition has presented an unexpected painkiller in the form of a resolution controversy to the LDF, which has been suffering from the headache caused by the CPI's opposition towards the Lokayukta Amendment Ordinance.

The first session of the new year will begin with the Governor's policy announcement. Apart from the controversy raised by the Lokayukta amendment, the opposition will also use the allegations raised in connection with the KSEB as weapons against the government. Other topics such as IAS officer M Sivasankar's autobiography, Swapna Suresh's reply to it, goons' attacks, and trade union agitation in Kannur against industrial enterprises are likely to spice the opposition's attack against the Pinarayi Vijayan government. The UDF will be devising plans to put the CPI, which has expressed dissatisfaction over the Lokayukta amendment ordinance, and the LDF on the defensive.

The UDF will also be using the resolution against the Lokayukta Amendment Ordinance as another weapon. However, the LDF got an unexpected weapon with the Congress witnessing difference of opinion among its leaders after Ramesh Chennithalla unilaterally made the announcement regarding the resolution without consulting the opposition leader.

The house will adjourn on February 21 after paying tributes to Thrikkakkara MLA P T Thomas. The discussions on the governor’s policy address will be held on February 22, 23 and 24. The chief minister and the opposition leader will take part in the discussions. The budget will be presented by the state’s Finance Minister K N Balagopal, on March 11. The general discussion on the budget will take place on March 14, 15 and 16. The house will adjourn on March 23 after completing the vote on account process on March 22.
