KOCHI: KSRTC is organizing excursions exclusively for women, as part of its revenue generating schemes. The project named as 'Women's Travel Week' is being organized from March 8 to 13 to mark World Women's Day.
Booking has started. Excursions will also be provided as per the requirements of womens organisations and groups. Individual trips are also available.
Trips will be arranged connecting multiple districts and within districts. There are packages with and without food. Most packages costs less than Rs 1,000 per adult. The amount varies based on travel distance and food.
Stay in Munnar
Mostly one-day trips are planned, but two-day and three-day trips are also possible. Currently, accommodation for travelers is available only in Munnar. It uses the safe stay system provided in KSRTC buses. If the demand is high, a multi-day trips to Munnar will also be organized.
Looking for a sponsor
KSRTC is also looking for sponsors for the women's travel program. Passengers will be given discounts if sponsors are available. There are plans to allow free travel for inmates in shelters and orphanages, if sponsors are available.
50 centres
Excursions are planned to more than 50 destinations. Malappuram-Munnar, Malappuram-Kakkayamdam, Nilambur-Wayanad, Nilambur-Munnar, Thrissur-Sagararani, Iringalakuda-Nelliampathi, Alappuzha-Vagamon-Parunthumpara, Mavelikkara-Munnar, Thiruvalla-Malakappara, Kulathupuzha-Vagamon-Parunthumpara-Kottayam , Palakkad-Nelliampathi and Kothamangalam-Munnar (forest trek) are the major routes.
50 persons in a bus and the staff include one or two drivers and a conductor. In Munnar, stay is provided in seven buses, 16 beds arranged in a bus, 116 beds are available in total.
The aim is to make tourism and KSRTC travel more attractive. It will also pave way for women to travel at a cheaper rate. Many projects are under discussion, said Anthony Raju, Minister of Transport
