THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Although the governor made the policy address enumerating the government’s achievements, the ruling party members remained uninterested. The policy address was delivered on Friday, amid a sharp rift between the governor and the government. Generally, the ruling party members will applaud by tapping on the desk, when the government’s achievements are read out. The ruling party’s silence during the governor’s policy address has publicized their dissatisfaction with the governor.

The governor who arrived at the legislative assembly on Friday morning, was received by ‘Go back’ slogans raised by the opposition. The governor became furious when opposition leader V D Satheesan got up from his seat to deliver a speech. The opposition parties soon left the house raising slogans and protested outside the entrance.

In the meantime, K R Jyothilal, principal secretary of General Administration Department (GAD), who was excluded last day, attended the assembly session. It was Jyothilal, then principal secretary of General Administration Department (GAD), who had expressed government’s displeasure, over the appointment of Hari S Kartha, a BJP state committee member and journalist, in the governor’s personal staff, through a letter.

The governor was outraged when the letter came out in the media, following which he refused to sign the policy address document. The decision to replace Jyothilal was taken in the discussion with the chief minister. It was only after knowing about the replacement that the governor gave approval for the policy address.
