THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health minister Veena George visited the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and evaluated the hospital's functioning. She made direct visits to Covid Ward and Covid ICU. The minister spoke to the staff, patients and their relatives.

The minister inspected the liver transplant ICU and the operating theatre being set up for liver transplant surgery in the super specialty block. The minister directed to provide facilities for liver transplant surgery as soon as possible.

Immediate action was taken on a complaint that patients were not being carried in the elevator. While visiting the emergency department, the relatives of some of the patients complained that they were not allowed in the lift. The minister also directed the hospital authorities to take care of the matter.


Minister Veena George said the visit was also to examine whether the decisions of the committee set up to improve the functioning of medical colleges, ensure specialist treatment and raise academic standards are being implemented. The minister was accompanied by Medical College Principal Dr Sara Varghese, Hospital Superintendent Dr Nizaruddin, Deputy Superintendents Dr Joby John and Dr Anil Sundaram, and heads of various departments.
