CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu urban local body elections is underway for posts in corporations, municipalities and town panchayats. The voting will be from 7 am till 6 pm.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin casted his vote at a polling booth at SIET College in Teynampet. ‘We give good governance to not only those who vote for us, but for everyone. Our alliance will win in all the corporations’, said the chief minister.

A total of 57,778 candidates are contesting for 12,607 seats in 648 local bodies in the state. The voting is held in a single phase since a gap of 11 years.

One lakh police officers have been deployed across the state for ensuring a just and peaceful election. In addition to this, 12,321 home guards, 2,870 veterans and retired police officers have also been deployed. CCTV cameras have been installed in all the polling booths. 41 IAS officers were also appointed to lead the election process.
