KOTTAYAM: The postmortem procedure of C K Deepu, a Twenty20 activist who died after being beaten up by CPM activists in Kizhakkambalam, was completed. The dead body was handed over to the relatives. The postmortem was conducted in the Kottayam Medical College, as per the demand of his family members.
Deepu was beaten up by four CPM activists on last Saturday. The police have arrested CPM Kavungalparambu branch secretary Parattu Biyattu Abdul Rahman (36), Zainuddin Salam (27) of Parattu house, Nedungadan Basheer (36) and Abdul Aziz (42) of Valiyaparambu, in connection with the incident.
It was alleged that Kunnanad MLA P V Srijin had planned to destroy the ‘Streetlight challenge’ project implemented to improve the streetlights in the panchayats governed by the Twenty20. As a part of this, a protest was organized on Saturday. Some CPM activists thrashed Deepu during the protest and threatened him. He was admitted to a private hospital in Pazhanganad and was later shifted to Aluva Rajagiri hospital. He died at around 12 noon on Friday.
