NEW DELHI: Gold worth Rs 45 lakh was seized from two passengers at the Varanasi airport on Saturday. The gold was seized from the two returning from UAE. One melted the gold and then hid the yellow metal in a small pouch under his wig.
The police found 646 grams of gold costing Rs 32.97 lakh from the person who came in Air India flight from Sharjah. 238.2 grams of gold costing Rs 12.14 lakh were found from another passenger on the same flight. He tried to smuggle the gold by concealing it in between the layers of plastic used to wrap the carton the passenger was carrying.
