KANNUR: A CPM activist was hacked to death near New Mahe in Thalassery. The dead has been identified as Haridas (54) of Punnol. The incident happened Monday early morning at 2 am. Haridas, a fisherman was attacked in front of his house when he was returning from work.

The miscreants came in two bikes. He was hacked to death in front of his family who came outside hearing some noise. The victim’s brother Suren sustained hack injuries when he was trying to prevent the attack.

Haridas’ leg was completely severed. Though he was rushed to Thalassery Cooperative Hospital, his life could not be saved. His body has been shifted to Pariyaram Medical College. RSS is behind the attack, alleged the CPM local leadership. A fight broke out between the CPM and the BJP a week ago over a temple festival. A hartal is being observed at Thalassery municipality and New Mahi panchayat.
