THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George on Monday made a surprise visit to Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital. Upon visiting the hospital, the minister directed the authorities to make the stroke unit functioning as soon as possible. Treatment should be ensured for all those who come to the hospital seeking treatment for stroke. The minister also visited the emergency department, waiting area, pharmacy, Covid ward, operation theatre complex, various ICUs and cath lab. The minister also interacted with patients and employees of the hospital.
The minister also visited the Apex Trauma & Emergency Learning Centre functioning in the hospital. She assessed the state-of-the-art classes conducted using mannequins.
Speaking to the media, Veena George said that she visited the hospital to ensure facilities, service and treatment to all. "Several people visit the General Hospital, the main hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Expert treatment should be ensured for all," she said.
The minister also directed the hospital authorities to take action against a hospital employee who tried to mislead her by giving false information. While visiting the pass counter before the hospital, a person complained to the minister saying that only one out of the two counters was functioning. When the minister enquired about the matter, the employee told her that the computer at the counter was not functioning for last 11 months. Following this, the minister immediately summoned the hospital superintendent. Soon it was found that there were no issues with the computer. With this, the minister directed the authorities to take action against the employee who tried to mislead her.
