KODUNGALLUR: According to post-mortem report, four members of a family committed suicide at Chandappura Uzhuvathukadavu after inhaling toxic carbon monoxide.

Thrissur Medical College authorities have handed over the postmortem report to the police.The deceased were identified as Ashif (41), a software engineer, his wife Abeera (34) and children Asra Fathima (14) and Anoneesa (8). They were found dead on Sunday.

The chemicals to produce the toxic gas were ordered online in January. Police found covers regarding the online purchase of chemicals and its delivery. . It is alleged that Asif Ubaidullah and his wife Abira made the poisonous gas after the children fell asleep.

The suicide note indicates that Asif has not been paid salary for four months. The relatives told the police that a chit for Rs 1 crore had not been paid for six years. Asif's father, Obaid, also had financial liability due to real estate business . Asif also faced several financial crisis. His wife Abira's family has come up with allegations against siblings of the latter’s husband, Ashif. They allege that the family's debt became Asif's responsibility and that this was the reason for the mass suicide.

The bodies was brought home in the evening after the postmortem. At 7 pm, parents and children were buried next to each other in the Cheramen, Juma Masjid. Benny Behanan MP, VR Sunil Kumar MLA, District Panchayat President PK Davis Master, City Council Chairperson M.U. Shinija and Vice Chairman K.R. Jaithreyan and others came to pay their respects.
