THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KPCC leadership is all set to announce the list of new DCC office bearers tomorrow after months of discussions. The DCC presidents and the KPCC general secretaries in charge of the districts are in final marathon discussions with the leadership at the KPCC headquarters.

Membership distribution will start on the 26th ahead of the organizational elections. The moves are being made on the basis of the understanding that the DCC office-bearers would be announced before that. AICC General Secretary Tariq Anwar, who is in charge of Kerala, and G Parameswara, Returning Officer for Organizational Selection, will arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday to attend the inauguration of the membership campaign and for related discussions.

The final list will be prepared by shortening and making necessary changes to the draft lists submitted from various districts. Each district leadership submitted three to four times as many names as needed. The KPCC leadership will examine the eligibility and previous working experience of those named in the draft list. The final list will be prepared based on age, region and other criterion.

DCCs in relatively smaller districts will have 15 office bearers, while DCCs in other districts will have 25 office bearers. The executive members will be 16 and 26 respectively. In addition to the DCC office bearers, new block presidents will also be announced tomorrow. However, the announcement regarding the KPCC secretaries will not be made now. G Parameswara, the returning officer, has stated that there will be no impediment to reorganization in the party till April when the code of conduct for elections comes into force. The KPCC secretaries will be announced before April.

Controversy over ONV Kurup commemoration meeting

A controversy has erupted within Congress over the ONV Kurup commemoration meeting held at the District Congress Committee headquarters. According to some Congress leaders, there was no need to hold a commemorative meeting for ONV Kurup, who had always opposed the Congress. They also pointed out that the poet had compared former PM Indira Gandhi to a dog following her assassination. They said that ONV had always maintained an anti-Congress stance and that he had contested from the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency as an LDF candidate. However, another section of leaders argued that the controversy over the commemoration meeting was unnecessary. The dispute between the two groups subsided following MM Hassan's intervention.
