THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The opposition has given notice for an adjournment motion demanding a discussion on the rise of political murders, violence and gangsterism in the state. The notice was given by Muslim League MLA N Shamsudheen.

The opposition has given the notice demanding a discussion on various subjects such as the murder of CPM activist Haridasan, a native of Punnol in Thalassery, Kannur, the uncontrolled rise of violence, gangsterism and attacks against women and children. The recent political murders in the state will also be discussed.

The opposition had alleged that the police’s inaction in Haridasan’s murder is the failure of the home ministry. The UDF has decided to launch an open protest demanding the resignation of the chief minister from the post of home minister. The opposition is planning to raise arguments against the chief minister in the assembly as well. The murder of a fisherman CPM activist in Thalassery has occurred within two days of the murder of a Twenty20 activist in Kizhakkambalam, Ernakulam.

There were 37 political murders reported during the first Pinarayi government alone. The political leaderships cannot escape as the CPM, RSS, SDPI, Congress, Muslim League, all parties come under the accused category. The rule of goonda-drug mafia is also spreading fear in the state. All these are proof of the police’s inaction, argued the opposition. The entire state was shocked upon reading the news of a goonda leader murdering a youth and dropping the body in front of the police station in Kottayam. In another horrible incident, a gang had murdered a youth in Pothencode, chopped off his leg and carried the severed leg before the public. Recently, a man was killed in Haripad in a drug -mafia attack. It is under these circumstances that the opposition has come forward with its new move.
