KOCHI: The funeral procession carrying the body of KPAC Lalitha has left for Thrissur from Thripunithura. The body will be kept at the Sangeetha Nataka Academy for a few minutes and from there will be taken to Vadakkancherry.

The body was kept at the Layam Auditorium in Thripunithura from 8 am onwards. Stars including Mammootty and Jayasurya arrived to pay homage. Mohanlal reached the actress’ house and paid homage. The body left for Thrissur at 11.15 am. The office-bearers of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) have also accompanied the body.

She will be cremated at the yard of her house in Vadakkancherry with full state honours. She died last night at 10.45 pm following liver ailments.

She was serving as Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy. She was the wife of late noted director Bharathan. She has acted in more than 600 films. She had twice received the national award for her roles in films Amaram and Shantham. She had bagged the state award four times. She had penned an autobiography, Katha Thudarum.

She was born to Ananthan Nair and Bhargavi Amma on March 10 in 1947. Her real name was Maheswari. In 964 she became active in theatre through the plays of KPAC.
