KOCHI: A division bench of the Kerala High Court upheld the appointment of Kannur vice-chancellor. The division bench upheld the re-appointment of Kannur vice-chancellor Gopinath Ravindran. The single bench had earlier approved this appointment. A division bench comprising Chief Justice S Manikumar has now dismissed the appeal challenging the appointment. The court considered the legal issues related to the first appointment and re-appointment as the most important legal issue. Matters including age limit should be considered in the first appointment. The search committee is also required for the first appointment. However, the petitioners contend that the same criteria should be followed in the re-appointment also. This was rejected by the division bench of the high court.
As per the finding of the division bench including Chief Justice S Manikumar, the appointment of Dr Gopinath Ravindran is legally valid. The appointment was based on the legal advice of the AG and the government, informed the lawyer of the governor also the chancellor.
