THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet meeting has decided to include the Christian Nadar community except SIUC in the state's OBC list. On February 6, 2021, the government issued an order to include all Christian Nadars except SIUC in the state OBC list. However, government stayed the order after a petition was filed against it in the high court. The petition said that the states do not have the power to include communities in the OBC list and it should be repealed.

Following the passage of the 127th Constitution Amendment Bill, states regained the power to include backward communities in the OBC list. The new decision came following this.
