THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three months after the launch of the Rest House online booking system on Kerala Piravi day, the Public Works Department has received more than Rs 1 crore in revenue. Rs 83,11,151 was made through 13,435 online bookings. 4,524 bookings were made in rest house counters and Rs. 28, 70, 369 was received . Out of a total of 17,959 bookings, Rs 1, 11, 81,520 were received. This was the first time such a revenue was earned.
1,151 rooms in 151 rest houses have online booking facilities. The online booking facility 'People's Rest Houses' was set up as per the request of Public Works Dept Minister P A MUhammed Riyas.
The highest bookings were in December for Rs 36,89,660. But bookings reduced in January due to Omicron outbreak.Now bookings are slowly increasing.
Thycaud Rest House in the capital ranks first in booking revenue. Chalakudy, Munnar and Ernakulam rest houses are close behind. With its popularity canteen, parking and refreshment facilities are being expanded. Generator and inverter systems will also be set up to avoid power outages. The government plans to expand these facilities further.
