KOCHI: The mother and grandma of the two-and a half-year-old girl undergoing treatment for serious injuries, attempted suicide. They attempted suicide by slitting their wrists Thursday early morning. The hospital authorities said their condition of both is satisfactory.

Meantime, it is still a mystery on how the child sustained injuries. There are contradictions in the statements of the child’s mother Soumya and grandmother Sarasu. They say that the child speaks like an adult and inflict injuries in her own body. The police have arrested the youth who was staying with the family. He was taken into custody from Bengaluru.

The condition of the child is satisfactory now. She has been taken off from the ventilator. She has not had epilepsy or other difficulties in the last 48 hours. Her heart rate and blood pressure are normal. There are attempts to give food via tube, the hospital authorities informed.

The police are trying to unravel the mystery by subjecting the son of Smitha, sister of Soumya, for counselling. The child is with Smitha who went into hiding. The child is heard telling his grandmother that they are in Edapally during the phone conversation between Tijin and Sarasu.
