KOCHI: The two-and a half-year-old girl undergoing treatment for serious injuries has opened her eyes. Her health condition is satisfactory and has started responding, the doctors said.

Meantime, the doctors reviewed that the injuries seen in her body were not self-inflicted. There are marks of burns. When the girl was admitted in the hospital, she had injuries sustained a month and a day back. Such a small girl cannot self-inflict injuries, said the doctors treating her.

When the cause of the accident still remains a mystery, the police arrested Atnony Tijin from Mysuru this morning. Tijin was staying with the child’s mother and grandmother in the flat. The police firmly believe that he may have attacked the child.

However, the child’s mother told police that no one attacked the baby and she was behaving abnormally for quite some time. The contradictory statements of the mother and the grandmother are confusing the investigation team as well.

In the meanwhile, the child’s mother and grandmother attempted suicide. The condition of two is stated to be stable.
