WASHINGTON: White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that US President Joe Biden will not hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that the US will not send troops to Ukraine to fight Russian forces. She said this during a press conference.
Earlier, Biden had said that he would hold talks with Putin only if Russia withdrew from the Ukraine invasion. However, Russia soon recognised two separatist areas in Ukraine as independent and ordered its troops to cross the Ukraine border. According to Russia, this was the only way to maintain peace in the region. But the US responded by stating that this was the beginning of the invasion.
The United States and its allies such as the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and Australia, have announced the first round of sanctions against Russia. With the US imposing sanctions on Russia, the funds that the European country used to receive from the West will be cut off. Moreover, Russia will no longer be able to borrow money from Western countries or start new businesses in the US or European markets. Meanwhile, the sanctions could also have an impact on the global economy. Russia is the third-largest oil producer in the world. It is also the second-largest natural gas producer in the world. The imposition of more sanctions on Russia is likely to have a significant impact on global markets.
