KYIV: The Ukrainians seek refuge in bunkers and underground metro stations after Russia intensified attacks against Ukraine. As Russia intensified its bombings, missile and rocket attacks, people began fleeing to safer places.
Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, looks deserted. Curfew was declared in the country since the outbreak of the war against Ukraine. People including Malayalees are in great distress. Many don’t have food or water. Toilets are not available in many places and this more difficult for them. Lack of blankets in extreme cold makes the situation worse. Many have only coats to protect themselves from the cold. Reports said about 100,000 people are reported to have fled Ukraine. They flee to their neighbouring countries like Romania, Poland, and Hungary.
The situation in Kyiv can change any time. The Indian Embassy had yesterday afternoon directed students to move to Lviv, a safe place which is 546 kilometres away from Kyiv. Soon came a message to continue in Kyiv itself. Many don’t have fuel in their vehicles if asked to move to Lviv. The Malayalee students said the embassy had informed them to collect money from the ATMs and get ready with the required documents.
